Indication of Artica Syrup

Pharmacology

• Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride acts as an anxiolytic antihistamine, primarily functioning as an H1 receptor antagonist.
• It is not a cortical depressant but may suppress activity in certain subcortical regions of the central nervous system.
• The drug exhibits skeletal muscle relaxation, bronchodilator activity, antihistaminic, and analgesic effects, along with antiemetic properties.
• Clinical effects are typically observed within 15 to 30 minutes post oral administration.

Dosage & Administration of Artica Syrup

• Dosage guidelines for Artica Hydrochloride vary based on the condition being treated:
  • For anxiety relief: Adults may take 50-100 mg four times daily, while children's doses range from 50-100 mg daily for those over six years and 50 mg daily for children under six years.
  • For pruritus management: Adults may take 25 mg three to four times daily, and children's doses mirror those for anxiety.
  • As a sedative: Adults may take 50-100 mg, while children's doses are calculated based on body weight.

Interaction

May potentiate CNS depressant effects of other drugs. MAOIs and TCAs may potentiate antimuscarinic effects.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its components should avoid its use.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Clinical data in human beings are inadequate to establish safety in early pregnancy. Until such data are available, Hydroxyzine is contraindicated in early pregnancy. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Since many drugs are so excreted, Hydroxyzine should not be given to nursing mothers. 

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in renal and hepatic impairment, glaucoma, epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, and asthma. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Use cautiously during lactation.

Store Artica Hydrochloride in a cool, dry place away from light, and out of reach of children.
